Actress Vidya Balan recently filed a complaint over fake social media accounts created under her name to offer job opportunities and solicit money from people in the entertainment industry.
Vidya became aware of this fraudulent act when a friend, who is a designer, received a WhatsApp message from someone who claimed to be her. The perpetrator expressed interest in working with the designer and suggested further talk if he was interested. The designer called Vidya to alert her that someone was using her name. Similar acts are being done through email and Instagram, and the Khar police stated that the perpetrator even demanded money from some people in the industry.
The actress clarified that she had never contacted those people nor used the associated phone number. Vidya denied any connection with the perpetrator and immediately filed a complaint under the Information Technology Act. This fraudulent act occurred between February 17 and February 19 and caused distress to Vidya.
