Nowadays we hear the movies collecting Rs 100 crores, Rs 200 crores and Rs 400 crores. But collecting crores of money is not a big thing, now. A film had collected Rs 1.55 crores before 70 years and created a huge record, nationwide. Yes, it is Chandralekha. Chandralekha is a Tamil and Hindi bilingual movie that has MK Radha, TR Rajakumari and Ranjan in the lead roles. The film was directed and produced by SS Vasan. It took nearly 5 years to wrap up the movie. Yes, people, the team started the movie in 1943 and wrapped up in 1948. The budget of the film is Rs 30 lakhs. Shocking isn't it! Making a movie in 30 lakh budget before 70 years, wow! If the collection amount of the movie is compared with today's INR value, it will exceed Rs 400 + crores. So hereafter the star heroes and the fans need not feel proud of their collection, because they could not compete with the collection of Chandralekha, even now. It is also heard that the promotions of the film were made at a different level and in fact, it was the pioneer of promotions. It is said that to produce this movie, SS Vasan mortgaged all his property and sold all his jewelry. Thank god, the film had made a super hit collection!
