Thoothukudi district, the Pearl City, had turned out to be a blood city by the gunfire attack by the Tamilnadu police to control the public. Yesterday, being the 100th day of the Sterlite protest, the people organized a procession and they were about to blockade the collectorate. Following this, the police blocked them. But, they couldn’t control the public power. While the police tried the lathi charge and the tear gas, the violence turned aggressive. Police vehicles were toppled; some of the vehicles in the Sterlite workers quarters were fired. Following this, the police started the gunfire and ten people were killed and hundreds are injured. Already the city was imposed with a curfew. Now, the district management announced that the curfew would continue until 8 am on 25th May. “
