Star Performances

Writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski have delivered a winner with this film. The two have delivered just what Tim Burton wanted with humor and drama in just the right dose.

Christoph Waltz has hit it out of the park with his brilliant rendition of Walter Keane. He is given solid support by Amy Adams, who as Margaret Keane, is phenomenal.

Analysis

Have you ever heard of anti-biopics? Well, that is what Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski believe in. For those unaware, ‘anti biopics’ is simply a biographical drama about those who do not even deserve to get one. However, in this genre, the two writers have given some outstanding classics, ‘Big Eyes’ being the latest entry to the club.

With ‘Big Eyes,’ Tim Burton and his two writers bring forward the audacity with which Walter Keane conned both his wife, as well as the world into believing that he was a painter with a class.

As Walter Keane, Christoph Waltz has only proved why he is a connoisseur of this profession. As the scheming, manipulative Walter Keane, Christoph goes the extra mile to prove why he is a force to reckon with.

So does Amy Adams. As a hardworking artist, Margaret Keane portrays her struggles, as well as her determination to claim what is rightfully hers brilliantly. While she has played some interesting characters before, Amy’s portrayal of Margaret is just phenomenal

If the film has any issues, it is mostly to do with the runtime, or keeping the audience engaged in some sequences. Except for that, ‘Big Eyes’ is a dark comedy that is a must-watch for all.
