The movie seems to have hit the screens in just in time. The present scenario is such that unions fail to be organized and seem to be razed down. The clout of unions should draw inspiration from Chavez’s efforts in building a union with people who had no power. Power and authority were not major issues for Chavez in taking up the struggle. The movie happens to be a fine lesson in history. But, it should go far beyond being just a drama with a lesson. The portrayal of the Mexican-American labor leader is excellent, done well by Michael Pena. But, showing the movie to children who are curious about history would not get the desired result. There is a better documentary about Cesar which projects on the screen the fast that he underwent. The movie Cesar Chavez lacks the warmth in it. The excellent actors in the film seem to have been wasted. The movie is a soul-stirring one. The directors have a level of understanding that is easily not attainable by the readers. The voiceover in the earlier part of the movie tries to clarify the Chavez’s mission to the audiences. But, too much of information seems to have been thrust into the movie that some events have not been projected effectively. The impoverished lot among the Americans saw a better life through Chavez, and the actor in Pena has effectively conveyed the story. Maybe, the movie is in abridged form. But, for an abridged version, the movie does a good job. Only the basics of the history lesson seem to have covered in the movie. Maybe, not many people know him because Martin Luther King Click to look into! >> Read More... Jr., was his contemporary and Martin’s popularity exceeded that of Chavez.
Verdict: The movie is a fine history lesson for kids and should be watched as part of school education.
