Plot

Perseus, a demigod who belongs to the clan of the mighty Zeus, is devastated by the demise of his mortal family. He vows to take his revenge against Hades, the ruler of the Underworld for the same. Perseus must give it his all to stop Hades before he wreaks havoc on the mortal world. Can he succeed against all odds?

Star Performances

Mads Mikkelsen as Draco is one of the few shining spots of this average fantasy flick. In some places, he even overwhelms the lead protagonist.

If not for the script, even Liam Neeson tries his best to portray the might of Zeus.

Analysis

‘Clash of the Titans’ is probably a 2-hour masterclass on how not to make a remake of a classic. Based on the 1981 classic, this film had everything: big sets, lavish costumes, and a high-profile star cast. It had everything but a powerful screenplay, special effects notwithstanding.

There have been several instances where the makers have used 3D with generosity. Some of those projects even worked, ‘ Avatar Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ being a great example. However, in the case of ‘Clash of the Titans,’ it is a different story altogether. Some even say that the film was not even originally shot in 3D. If that is the case, what was the point of using the technology, even if it was not needed?

The concept, if implemented properly, could have worked wonders. Sadly, that was not the case. There are several loopholes, both in effects as well as the plot, that are just too big to ignore. If the protagonist is weaker than the side characters, you know the makers have not done a good job. But that is the case with Sam Worthington. For Ralph Fiennes’ rendition of Hades, the less said, the better.

The haphazard screenplay also prevented some characters from unleashing their true potential. If not for these glitches, actors like Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, and Mads Mikkelsen had much more to offer.

What's There?

  • Only the performances of Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton and Liam Neeson

What's Not There?

  • Unimpressive Special Effects
  • Huge loopholes in the narrative
  • Half-hearted efforts by Sam Worthington and Ralph Fiennes
  • Confused direction by Louis Leterrier

Verdict

‘Clash of The Titans’ is a remake that should not have been made in the first place. The clunky special effects, added by half-hearted efforts from the lead protagonist have made this an underwhelming affair. Watch this only if you are a fan of Liam Neeson or even Mads Mikkelsen.
