Plot

The film’s protagonist is Elizabeth, played by Abbey Lee, a new bride, adorned in her wedding dress going to her husband’s house to start their life together. Her husband Henry, played by Ciáran Hinds, showers her with luxuries such as hundreds of dresses, exquisite jewels, and a palatial estate. Apart from Elizabeth and Henry, the estate has two other occupants, one is Claire, played by Carla Gugino, the housekeeper, and the other occupant is Oliver, played by Matthew Beard, Henry’s blind son. Henry tells Elizabeth to make herself at home but warns her to never enter the room in the basement. For a few days, the clothes, the jewels, and the mansion are sufficient to hold her interest, but after a few days Elizabeth is drawn towards the basement. In the basement room, she finds cryogenic tanks filled with some fluid housing her clones. She freaks out and leaves the room, but Henry finds out about her intrusion in the room and chases her around the house and murders her. Later, we see a new Elizabeth adorned with her wedding dress come to Henry’s mansion as his bride. The film follows Elizabeth as she tries to discover the truth and gain control over her life.

Star Performance

Ciáran Hinds gives a stellar performance as an unhinged maniac. Carla Gugino plays the role of the tormented housekeeper with secrets well. Abbey Lee’s performance is unsatisfactory.

Analysis

“Elizabeth Harvest” is an eerie thriller about a man who clones and murders his wife over and over. His reason for doing so is also completely unhinged. The film is shot well as the silent palatial mansion has a ghostly atmosphere.

What’s There?

• A thriller film with some elements of horror

What’s Not There?

• The film fails at being self-explanatory as the film has to employ flashbacks, monologues, and explanation to explain the plot.

Verdict

“Elizabeth Harvest” is a perfect blend of science-fiction and horror. A brilliant scientist successfully clones his dead wife but then develops a liking to killing the clones because they are not like his wife. The suspense in the plot and Ciáran Hinds’ performance make this film entertaining. The film would be a good watch for science-fiction and thriller genre enthusiasts.
