Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016). Written by J.K. Rowling, the film once again takes us into a fantasy land with bizarre creatures and more bizarre magic.

Plot:

The film starts where its prequel left off, showing Gellert Grindelwald imprisoned. He is transferred to London for the trial of his crimes in Europe, but he manages to escape during this transfer. The responsibility to fight against Grindelwald’s evil schemes falls on Albus Dumbeldore, who was close with Grindelwald in the past. Albus asks Newt Scamander, his former student, for his assistance. Newt is tasked to reach Credence, who has incredible magical abilities, before Grindelwald does as Grindelwald believes Credence has magical potential powerful enough to defeat Albus Dumbeldore.

Star performance:

The actors played their parts well, be it Jude Law Besides bagging nominations for two Screen Actors >> Read More... , who was the best possible choice to play Albus Dumbeldore; or Eddie Redmayne Eddie Redmayne, whose full name is Edward John Dav >> Read More... , playing Newt; or Katherine Waterson, playing Tina; or Zoё Kravitz playing Leta; or Johnny Depp An iconic award-winning-actor that doesn’t watches >> Read More... , perfectly playing the role of evil very effectively. The film has very good visual effects and costume design.

Analysis:

The film gets quite confusing by introducing numerous new characters and many subplots. It feels more like a prologue, setting the story for the forthcoming movies of the franchise rather than being an independent film of its own. It seems like an overloaded tangle of information of the wizarding world with a very little substantial plot.

What’s there?

• Impressive fantastic elements

• Good visual effects

• Pretty good cast

What’s not there?

• Well-written storyline

• Well-developed characters

Verdict:

The movie can be a good watch if you are an ardent Potterhead and love to know intricate details about the world of wizards, but it is a rather confusing mess of too many characters and too few incidents to move the plot forward.
