Plot

Following the demise of Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort has absolute control over the magical world, including Hogwarts. Though compelled to live in hiding, Harry, Ron, and Hermoine continue to lead the resistance. They realize that to bring down Voldemort, they need to finish the incomplete mission of Professor Dumbledore and find the Horcruxes before Voldemort does. Will they be able to do it?

Star Performances

To bring an illustrious legacy to an end is not a cakewalk. However, Steve Kloves as the writer makes sure that the viewers are more than prepared for the showdown between Harry Potter and Voldemort. David Yates’ able direction only adds to the fine quality of this grand epic.

This is also the film where the lead trio must deliver well on the acting front, and they deliver it in style. Alan Rickman as Severus Snape also does justice to his role.

Analysis

By the time you enter the hall, you realize what you are in for. This is no longer a world of wonder and joy but one marred by darkness and despondence. Totalitarianism rules the roost, and Voldemort will stop at anything but achieve his goal: invincibility.

However, despite the morose circumstances, Harry and his friends refuse to give up. David Yates and Steve Kloves had an uphill task of creating the right environment for the audiences to get emotionally invested in this film. This is no more about the magic, but the display of human emotions at its finest.

Of course, the set designs, as well as the VFX, are far from being unimpressive. However, what makes this film stand apart is the focus on human emotions. The film is thrilling and dark, yet gritty and emotional in equal measure. The lead trio of Daniel, Rupert, and Emma carry this film on their shoulders. The supporting cast does a fine job with their respective roles. There are a couple of hurdles in the integration of narrative, but not much to ruin the overall experience.

What's There?

  • An engaging, thrilling narrative
  • Great direction by David Yates
  • Brilliant acting performances from the entire cast, especially the lead trio

What's Not There?

  • Minor glitches in the narrative

Verdict

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1’ is the perfect lead to the epic showdown that are all anticipating. The focus is less on style, and more on substance. From the writer to the actors, everyone has done a fine job! You must watch this film for sure, especially if you are a die-hard JK Rowling fan!
