Director Ron Howard, who had worked on a true happening in the lives of astronauts in Apollo 13, has now delved into the lives of sailors waddling through the oceans. The movie has drawn inspiration from Nathaniel Philbrick’s famous book based on real life happenings named” In The Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex”. Join with me to see how this movie is.

Plot

The movie is set in the 1820s. Chris Hemsworth A “heartthrob” and total madness of women from “do >> Read More... , who wants to show his superiority over the Captain Benjamin Walker,  leads a group of sailors in the Essex, a whaling vessel, in an ocean that seems never-ending. They are direly in need of a land. And to the twist of the movie, their life is at stake due to a monstrous sperm whale. What does this whale, which almost acts like human, do? Watch the movie to find out.

Star Performances

Helmsworth essays the role of a brave person who knows everything about the sea. The supporting cast outshines in the movie especially Cillian Murphy.

Analysis

In The Heart of the Sea belongs to a period when things such as moral issues concerning the ignobleness of whaling were not available. It was a time when endangerment of species was not at all conceived. But the scenario is completely different now. Whaling is hardly found in the world, owing to its banning. The whaling act was a herculean task for the members at that time. A big whale has the capability to shrink the size of a ship.
Well, we see the movie through the eyes of Brendon Gleeson, who narrates the story. It should be noted that Gleeson is a survivor.

What’s there?

  • The meticulousness with which the movie has been filmed is more appealing than the star performances.
  • Anthony Dod Mantle’s cinematography is par excellence. In fact, it’s the major asset of the movie.
  • The 3d elevates the movie.  The underwater scenes are too great for words.
  • The whale is so wonderful (thanks to the CGI) that you cannot take your eyes off it.
  • The story of Moby Dick from the whale’s angle is intriguing.
  • The whale doesn’t seem to be brutal, and you tend to empathize with it. It seems more of a fury of nature.

What’s not there?

The movie has touched upon different issues like the smartness of the whale, the survival instinct of the humans and most importantly corporate values. But they are not framed astutely.

Verdict

The movie can be watched once especially for the picturization of the whale.
