The American movie Pacific Rim hit the screens in 2013. The movie is a science fiction and falls into the category of monster film. Guillermo del Toro directed the movie. The story and the screenplay are by Travis Beacham. Charlie Hunnam plays a pilot named Raleigh Becket; Rinko Kikuchi plays the role of a trainee pilot Mako Mori. There is a robot named Jaeger in the movie.

The plot goes ahead in time to 2020. The Earthlings are struggling for existence as huge monsters called Kaijus appear from deep down the Pacific Ocean. The human race comes out with a novel idea of combating the monsters with robot’s help. Two pilots man the robot, and their minds are interconnected with the help of a neural transmitter. Hit movies of the Hollywood are targeted at young adolescents. The gigantic spectacles in the movies have failed to impress audiences of older age group. Also, the movie Pacific Rim had mixed responses before release.

But, the movie Pacific Rim takes audiences by surprise with abundant scenes of robots clashing with monsters. Also, there are some flaws in the movie. The Australian accent gets on the nerves, and the scientist pair comes out as the stereotypes like in every other movie of such category. Ron Perlman as Hannibal Chau is an exception, and he has outdone others in performance.

The music composition is moderate in quality. But, there are deeply moving scenes when an electric guitar is played. Also, there are the Japanese drums, a Russian choir and a violin typical of the Chinese. The movie is not a masterpiece but can make audiences relish it just like the children do. The audiences would find it hard to shake off the hangover even long after watching the movie.
