Plot: The plot revolves around the life of Richard whose aspiration to become a novelist is dampened. Richard believes that the story character in his mind is true. He forms an unbreakable bond with the imaginary character. The superhero friend, Captain Excellent flashes in Richard’s memory. Richard even talks to the Captain. Richard’s worried wife Claire prods him to move to an Island beach community for the winter with the hope that he will be freed of the mind block in the due course. In the island, Teenager Abby draws Richard’s attention as she sets ablaze some garbage in the bin for no obvious reason. Richard starts watching her move about the place. To Richard’s shock, Abby turns around. To avoid a major embarrassment, Richard requests Abby to be a babysitter for his ‘children.' Abby arrives at his house, and to her surprise, she finds no children. Richard admits to having no children. Then, Richard moves out for work.Richard’s imaginary friend Captain Excellent flashes before his eyes warning him not to take any decisions without his consent. Richard returns home to find Abby ready to serve a steaming cup of soup.

The rest of the plot goes revolves around the relationship between Richard and Abby. Richard has a secret to tell her. In return, Abby has something to speak with Richard. The sadness in both of their lives binds them together.In the climax, the love for Abby is so strong that Richard is already out of his writer’s mind block. He bids a final adieu to his imaginary friend Captain Excellent.

The movie has had negative reviews with many reviewers dismissing the plot as nonsensical. Although the movie had negative reception, the actors in the movie were lauded for their performances. Emma Stone was noted for her performance as the young Ammy. Audiences are left with a question about the nature of character Richard as a writer. The question matters because one has to know whether the novel in Richard’s mind is worth writing.

Verdict: A huge question is ‘Is the movie worth watching??’ The answer is ‘Of course, No.’
