Calvin is a novelist by profession who was faring well in his career for a good amount of time. Only recently he became out of job and his life from a romantic angle was also a disastrous one.

He begins framing an imaginary character, a girl which he names Ruby. His life takes a 360-degree turn when one fine day he wakes up only to find that the imaginary girl he had been creating all this while suddenly came to life and is standing right in front of him.

He becomes extremely flustered and flabbergasted. With this, there are a series of incidences which leave him absolutely awestruck. The concept of the movie may remind you largely of the story of Pinocchio and therefore, you may be able to connect owing to the universal taken point that everybody knows Pinocchio from their childhood.

The movie is funny and makes you smile, smirk or admire it but it comes as a rather new revelation which is also astonishing that the movie has its dark side too. Zoe Kazan, apart from acting in the movie, has also written the script for the film. It is, therefore, very interesting to see Zoe perform the role of Ruby owing to the fact that it is a character that she has created herself and knows the nitty gritty of the same.

The character is witty and quirky but it is slightly disappointing to see that there are a lot of clichés in her character. As much as the plot seems familiar due to our childhood friend Pinocchio, it still is very much unpredictable and isn’t monotonous. This movie is funny but that’s not the only thing you will notice while you’re watching it. There are a lot of below the belt humor and satire which is fairly thought provoking.

This movie is a one-time watch for people who believe in a world of fantasy or for those who just want to have a good time watching comedy.
