Plot

Vincent MacKenna (Bill Murray) is a retired Vietnam War veteran who has a lot of debts and is a gambler, drunkard. Maggie Bronstein ( Melissa McCarthy Melissa McCarthy is an eminent actress, writer, pr >> Read More... ) moves into a new home near to Vincent’s, with her twelve-year-old son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher). Maggie has broken up with her husband and works as a medical technician to take care of Oliver. Hence, Vincent babysits for Oliver. They both get closer and visits racetracks and bars after school. One day, Vincent gets a stroke and is hospitalized by Oliver, Maggie, and Daka for his recovery. Oliver’s dad, who is a lawyer, finds Vincent taking Oliver to bars and makes the court order Vincent not to meet Oliver ever again. ‘Will Oliver and Vincent be the way they used to be?’ is all about the story.

Analysis

The movie could never be guessed directed by a debutant filmmaker as Theodore Melfi has given his best. Though the scenes are humorous in many places, the director has brought a fabulous touch to the climax which makes the audience have no control over their tears.

Star Performance:

Bill Murray suits the best for the role of Vincent and has maintained a perfect body language throughout the movie. Jaeden Lieberher has captured the hearts of people and made everyone wonder how a kid could act better than any. Bill Murray and Jeaden have got a fantastic chemistry in the screen that made the audience relate to their roles.

What’s there?

1) A fantastic narrative type throughout the movie.

2) Crispy dialogues that make the audience laugh.

3) The emotions were conveyed much better due to the genuine reactions of the cast.

What’s not there?

1) The background score was a bit dull, which better concentrated would have made few scenes better than expected.

Verdict:

A narrative that could be watched once.
