Plot

The film’s protagonist is Ronald DeFeo Jr., played by John Robinson. The film is based on the true story of the Amityville murders, wherein Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed his parents, his two sisters, and two brothers in the middle of the night on November 13, 1974. The next day, he entered a bar exclaiming that his parents had been shot dead and blamed a hit man for their deaths. But later, when the police found inconsistencies in his story during investigation, he admitted to carrying out the murders because incessant voices in their home told him to do so. The film follows Ronald DeFeo’s story of the horrors he faced, his crimes, and his trial.

Star Performance

John Robinson gives a good performance as Ronald DeFeo Jr., and perfectly portrays Ronald’s pain, suffering, and agony.

Analysis

The film attempts to combine supernatural elements with logic and results as a mismatched mess. The film introduces a number of conjectures but does not discuss them at all.

What’s There?

• The film portrays the horrifying incidents of the Amityville Murders

• The film has horror and thriller elements, and the protagonist performs well

What’s Not There?

• The film feels disjointed and disappointing with its storyline

• The film does not add anything of value that would justify this remake of a story that has been made into a film multiple times before

Verdict

The film would be a good watch for horror, thriller, and supernatural genre enthusiasts. The film has good cinematography and sound effects that induce fear.
