Plot

On the other hand, his spouse Alicia Vikander A girl mostly raised by a single mother Maria Fahl >> Read More... is a portrait artist. They live a sophisticated life and share a warm bond. Once it happens that Eddie puts a pair of stockings, and twist to the story happens hereafter.

Star Performances

You cannot think of any suitable person for the role of a transgender after seeing Eddie Redmayne’s outstanding performance. He has imbibed the ins and outs of Lili’s character in a seamless manner. Alicia Vikander does her role with conviction, and one longs that her part could have been more powerful; such is her performance. Her performance as the woman who experiences great pain while dealing with her transgender spouse deserves applause.

Analysis

Identity crisis…that’s what the crux of this movie is. Eddie Redmayne dons both the role of Einar Wegener and Lili Elbe. The leads of the movie are shown as consistently in a sober state. The predicament of Einar to let go one life and slip into another is dealt with in this movie in a complex manner. That there is really a woman in him elevates the movie.

The cinematography is one of the highlights of the movie and yet get to see the 30s era in its full form.
The mirror reflection plays a major part in adding to the interest of the movie.
The background score also speaks for the film.

What’s not there?

The twist in the movie comes quite early in the movie. The real nature of the man in Eddie could have been analyzed well.

Verdict

Danish Girl can be watched for the earnestness of the director and the leads. But whether earnestness always wins in the box office is the million dollar question.
