CAST & CREW
Ridley Scott is known for his splendid and thrilling films. And remember that he is the director of Gladiator and Alien. But the surprising fact is that he has come out with a new attempt this time with the film “ The Martians”. The director has understood the pulse of the sci-fi audience and come out with an entertainment piece. In fact, we are totally carried to Mars and live there.
Plot: This is the story of a NASA Botanist marooned on the planet Mars. Though this flick resembles Robinson Crusoe on Mars and Red Planet, it leaves you spellbound sometimes. There is no parallel story in this film and it deals with Matt’s struggle on Mars. He is making out what to do and NASA is also trying to help him out.
This film has a great cast of top notch stars supported by rising stars. It is shown in a nice manner with superbly shot 3ds. The movie is interspersed with humor. Also, the movie has its own share of suspense elements. Matt Damon dominates the film since his character is that of a man who battles life in Mars. It is good to see Matt maintaining video records of his works. This helps to reduce the issues he faces in Mars. Matt’s onscreen charm is indeed commendable.
On the flip side, Drew Goddard’s script falters in the sense that when a person is miles away from earth he should be undergoing distress. But that is not effectively presented in the film, and thus there is lack of emotional connectivity with the audience. Beyond survival there is much more; the emotional depth; and this movie lacks in this. But as far as Scott’s work is concerned, this film is definitely the entertaining one from his stables. The pace of the flick is steady, and the casting is also commendable.
This film is engaging and thoroughly realistic. Darius Wolski has made the utmost use of cinematography by bringing before our eyes the scorched red of Mars and also the layers of space.
Verdict: The Martians is a tribute to the greatness of the human mind.
