If you had been thirsty for some action movie with more intense and seemingly unending fighting sequences than you have ever seen, or if you have been a hardcore fan of The Raid and thinking that no other movie will ever be able to top that level of action in a long time, then The Raid 2 is definitely the movie you need to watch.

This Indonesian action epic picks up the story of its prequel merely 2 hours later. It starts with the hero of the last movie, the Jakarta cop, Rama, who has to go behind the bars undercover to befriend the dangerous gangster forces. He plans to win their trust and infiltrate into their plans to get to the corrupt politicians and the police who are the ones really pulling the strings. In order to do so he takes on a different identity, ‘Yuda’ and has to risk his family and life to reach the top of the underworld criminal food chain and bring it all down. However, this not-so-special plot of the movie will never be able to rise above the rough and reckless action that dominates each and every aspect of the movie.

As you are watching the movie, it would be impossible for you to keep yourself from wincing fro all the gory and unbelievable ways people are beating and getting beaten up. In spite of all the whiplash and the scarily close camera angles, the choreography of each and every sequence and details of each and every fight is just genius. You might feel like you are present in the scene yourself, but the ones who love some super intense gut-wrenching action from up close would thoroughly enjoy themselves.

On the other hand, the scenes without the action where serious issues like loyalty, trust and family are being discussed among the characters may seem a little too silent and just a little lifeless. However, in all aspects, Gareth has successfully managed to rise to the expectations of the fans of its prequel and delivered another movie which has surpassed The Raid by being more intense, fast-paced, action-packed, violent, ruthless and in-your-face. Starting from the unimaginably gruesome villains to the action, that could leave you with some traumatic echo after you have finished watching it, Gareth has truly out-done himself.

To the chilling and wince-inducing most hardcore action movie like never before, I give The Raid 2, 4.5 out of 5 popcorn tubs.
