Plot

Years after being thrown out of his native home in Pakistan, Shivaji is looking for his adopted mother, from whom he was unfortunately separated. He meets Sapna in this quest, and the two instantly fall for each other.

Meanwhile, their fellow refugees are harassed by local goons Bhairav and Bhavani. Shivaji must not only deal with them but his stepbrother, who hates him to the core and is ready to join hands with Shivaji's enemies. Will Shivaji be able to overcome the challenges in his path?

Star Performances

While there is almost nothing good to remember about this movie, some factors still stand out.

Sahil Vaid does his best as the hero's sidekick. Had it not been for the inadequate space given to the two, Sharad Kelkar and Rajesh Sharma still attempted to salvage this half-baked movie.

Analysis

There are two kinds of movies: those that give audience memories of a lifetime and those that set the cash registers ringing. But there is a less talked about category: films that nobody asked for!

Thanks to the pandemic, online media opened a treasure trove of films for movie buffs from every nook and corner of India. People who do not even know the T of Telugu or the H of Hindi learned more about films that struck a chord with the audience, even as they eagerly waited for the world to open post-pandemic.

However, 'Chatrapathi' is a remake that leaves us with a question: 'Why'? If this is how Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas intended to expand his base beyond the Telugu film industry, the lesser said, the better. The film, despite the promise shown in the concepts, is far from it in terms of execution. The thought of depicting the struggles of Hindu refugees from Pakistan was underutilized.

Making remakes, irrespective of region, comes with its own set of challenges. Either you are someone like Priyadarshan, who can recreate his classics with finesse, or you are Ajay Devgn, whose remakes make even the original run for cover. However, neither VV Vinayak nor Bellamkonda Sreenivas is lucky in this context. While some of the action sequences evoked interest, it could not make up for the lack of a proper emotional connection with the storyline.

Verdict

'Chatrapathi' is a remake that none expected or even desired. The acting by most of the crew is below average, and except for a few action sequences, there is nothing much to remember about this movie.
