Chhota Bheem Bheem is a comedy-adventure animated series. It st >> Read More... ” has become a favourite with kids on TV with several different stories of the series being telecast. Cashing into that popularity of the series, this is the second film version of a Chhota Bheem story that has been released. For this big screen adaptation, a lot of grandeur has been added to the story to enhance the cinematic value.

Plot:  In this story, the action begins as usual at Dholakpur but swiftly moves over to Bali when Prince Indumati is told a story about Bali by her father, King Indraverma. It is all about a dangerous demon called Rangda who has her own army of Leyaks (magical demons) and is out to capture and defeat Prince Arjun, the prince of Bali. Coming to know of this, King Indraverma sets out for Bali, taking along with him princess Indumati and Bheem with his team in his entourage. However, before they could reach Bali, Rangda and her Leyaks have already attacked Bali, but luckily Prince Arjun is able to escape with the help of Guru Bahula, the royal priest. When Arjun recovers from his unconsciousness and meets Bheem and his friends Chutki and Raju, the latter are taken aback at Arjun addressing them as kids. Bheem counsels patience and restraint silently confident of displaying their prowess to Arjun in the battle ahead. A fierce battle ensues between Rangda and her Leyaks on one side and Bheem and his team fighting jointly with Arjun. The protagonists maintain an upper hand, and Bheem also saves the life of Arjun, disconcerted at having to take help of others. In a friendly contest that follows, Bheem goes on to kill 100 Leyaks while Arjun follows close with 99. The 2 of them then form a formidable team and take up one by one all the stupendous challenges thrown to them by Rangda and the Leyaks. The story finally ends with the coronation of Arjun and the declaration by Barong the supreme god of Bali that it is Bheem who is the real prince, for his role in defeating Rangda and saving the life of Arjun so many times.

The duration of the film is just optimally timed neither making the events appear too cramped nor leave a feeling of stalling, and it is supported by a simple, uncluttered story telling pattern, with the songs blending in smoothly and supporting the tempo. The animation is admittedly of a better quality and soothing to the eye compared to previous Indian animation films. Director Rajiv Chilaka, who himself is a master animation expert and has his own production house, has been a pioneer in the country for animation films. The graphics, the dubbing and the colourful backgrounds all merge well to display the grandeur of Bali and the music and background score sounds appropriate.

Verdict: “Chhota Bheem” on the big screen is a not to be missed opportunity for kids, but there is much to entertain the accompanying adults also.
