Plot: The film Club Dancer is about a young girl Ria who is a dancer at a nightclub. She stays in a different city and therefore pursues this profession without the knowledge of her parents. However, one day her parents decide to leave the previous city they lived in and settle down where Ria lived mostly for a medical emergency. This comes as a shock to Ria because she had earlier framed up a story of her marriage just in order that her parents allow her to stay in Mumbai, and she can pursue her dreams.
While this is Ria’s side of the story, there is also Monty who has just assassinated the Chief Minister and is hiding. The two meet each other and Ria decides to help Monty out by letting him stay in her house. As a result, Monty agrees to help her by playing the role of her husband. The entire story is about how the two help each other come of the situation when everything around them is going wrong.
Analysis: The film Club Dancer has the name of some of the most famous families in the film industry; the Mukherjee’s which is known for launching one of the biggest stars of Bollywood. S Mukherjee is the producer of the film. Despite the fact that such big names are attached to this film, it still does not have any attraction or publicity and neither expectations. The story is disastrous. The film does try to bring humour to it with the help of some unintentional and forceful comedy.
The film does not offer anything great. There are a few songs by Amit Kumar that are still acceptable but apart from that there is nothing good in the film. However, the background music is pretty jarring. Director B Prasad has totally failed, and his performance or role as a director is hardly visible. The reaction to every action in the movie is very fake. Adding to that the scenes are also pretty long that bores the viewers a lot.
Star Performances: Nisha Mavani is in the lead role of the film as Ria. There is no positive response to her part. She puts up a dismal performance. She not just fails to ask but also is hardly presentable. Rajbeer Singh plays Monty. He too does everything in the film apart from acting. It does not take a long time for viewers to realise that he actually does nothing worth watching.
There is practically no chemistry between the two artists. Television actor Aryan Vaid plays the role of a cop and looks very harsh. There is no reason why famous actors like Shakti Kapoor seem embarrassed to be a part of this film. Also, the same goes for Zarina Wahab. However, irrespective of the kind of film it is, the two actors are excellent in their parts.
What’s there? A few songs in the film are pretty good to hear. Performance by actors like Shakti Kapoor and Zarina Wahab is commendable.
What’s no there? The film has no reason why viewers should watch it. It does not have a good and watchable storyline. Neither is the acting by the lead actors praiseworthy. Adding to that, it drags a lot and seems to be almost never-ending.
Verdict: Club Dancer is a film that one can easily ignore. It does not have anything to offer which is one reason why it is one of those movies that people have not even heard about.
