The film heralds a comeback of sorts for Preity Zinta Preity, also known as Preity Zinta is a famous Act >> Read More... . Not only does she appear in the lead role but also serves jointly as the story writer. The story, though, seems to have drawn inspiration from American filmmaker, Richard Linklater’s “Before Sunset” and “Before Sunrise” series. If her intention was to come back with a big bang after a prolonged hibernation, and her dalliance with IPL in the meanwhile, it must have come to her as a rude shock as the release of the film got mixed up with finals of the IPL in the same week taking away much of the limelight from the film.

Plot: In a faint image of the classic “Roman Holiday” this film deals with the experiences of two strangers who end up in Paris, travelling by train from Rome. But neither Preity Zinta in the role of Ishkq nor Rhehan Malliek as Aakash can come anywhere near Peck and Hepburn, nor is theirs a holiday in Paris. They end up just spending the evening together on the bye-lanes and alleys of Paris, before deciding at the break of dawn to go their own ways. This turns out to be an anti-climax, after all, the seemingly romantic moments they had spent together in the evening. It almost seems as though the screenplay slips in a pre-ordained brake to a natural flow of events. It relents ultimately, however, when they are ordained to meet again. Ishq, who has a French mom and a desi daddy, seems to have been unwary of getting into relationships. She may have developed that attitude due to the issues that plague her parental relations. That is why when romance blossoms in the heart, even then she seems to be suppressing it. The sequence of events that follow after this has moments of humour interspersed with the underlying drama.

Review: There are candid moments where the two protagonists discuss about love and manoeuvres the twists in the plot quite suavely; leading up to the inevitable climax, where we find the strong-willed Ishq relenting to the wishes of the most romantic-minded Aakash once they meet up again in Paris. It was intended that Preity should be the focal point of the movie, and that is how the script plays out. To her credit, although she seems to have lost a part of her youthful bubbly nature during her 4-year break, she brings in the reserved romantic trait in her character which matches well with her role.

Star Performances: Rhehan proves to be the ideal counterfoil to Preity, playing a matching second fiddle to her, to highlight her role more prominently. The two seem to share a good amount of chemistry, and director Prem Raj Prem Raj is a director in the Indian film Industry >> Read More... appears to have captured it well. Director Raj can derive satisfaction from the fact that at several places his narration style, and also the punches of the surprise that he slips in through from time to time. Although he seems to have borrowed the theme from the Linklater series of films, his process of indigenization and partly providing a French dressing fits in smoothly without any rough edges. Yet, there are moments when the movie seems to stray into incongruous or cliche ridden zones.

Technical Aspects: Given the locales of Paris, both in the daytime and in the night, it must have been a mouth-watering opportunity for cinematographer Manush Nandan Manush Nandan is an Indian Cinematographer. He was >> Read More... to try out his skills. He has indeed done a commendable job capturing both evening shades and the sunlight hues exquisitely, and this adds a lot to the overall beauty of the film. Apart from the visually pleasing camera work, the musical score of the Sajid-Wajid duo sounds appealing to the ears and is fully in keeping with the romantic background of the film, with racy and catchy beats adding variety to the score.

Verdict: There are several watchable moments in the film – not the least being Preity’s reappearance, but also the love theme dealt in a classy manner, and eye-catching visuals of the Eiffel by night providing the icing on the cake.
