Plot: The story revolves around the love saga of Jahan Bakshi (Pulkit Samrat) and Suhaani Kapoor (Yami Gautam). Suhaani is a young, bubbly, typical Punjabi ‘Kudi’ whereas; Jahaan is the stern, brave, Indian Army Captain, who does not believe in destiny. College girl Suhaani goes for a trip to the picturesque Himalayas and while swimming in a lake accidentally starts drowning. Jahaan (Pulkit Samrat) reaches the spot and with few of his officers, rescues her. Suhaani’s 3- day stay at the base makes the two of them fall for each other. Though they fall in love in a pretty much fairytale style, their romance is short-lived. Suhaani’s family history is the main villain for their story.

The Kapoor family has already lost three family members, who were part of the Indian Army, at war. The taboo of the death of any member linked with the armed forces lingers and the Kapoor’s disapprove of their relationship. Suhaani and Jahaan accept the decision as their fate and decide to go separate ways but die-hard lovers, the two of them are not able to stay away for long. The realization that they are not meant to part ways dawns a little later and by that time misunderstandings have crept in. These misapprehensions between them bring new twists and turns to the story and take it to an altogether new track. Where their love leads them and whether they end up together or not is what the audience has to watch and find out.

Analysis: “ Junooniyat” is simple and somewhat follows in the steps of the stereotypical Bollywood romantic flick. The quaint, scenic beauty of Kashmir and the colorful splendor of Punjab are both beautifully captured in the frame of the movie. The script is predictable. Overall, the visuals of pretty locales are not enough to keep up the show, but those are pretty much what the movie depends on.

Star Performances: Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam are quite a likable pair. A movie like “Junooniyat”, which is slightly weak with the plot, needs strong performances and this is what the protagonists deliver. Pulkit Samrat fits perfectly in the role of the army captain, and Yami Gautam is the quintessential, chirpy Punjabi college girl. Both are quite good and give us as much as they can with the script.

What’s There: The music for the movie is good. The scenery is captured beautifully. The Punjabi wedding sequence in the second half is quite energetic and gives a boost to an otherwise boring continuance in the movie.

What’s Not There: The story has nothing new to offer apart from the cliché Bollywood romantic drama.

Verdict: “Junooniyat” is the sentimental story which is not that worth a watch. Though the actors are good, the script is the same old romantic love story; the audience can wait for the television channels to get the rights. If you still go for the movie at the theaters, don’t expect much.
