Plot: The movie starts with Dayal Singh (essayed by Jackie Shroff Intro: Jackie Shroff is a well known Bollywood act >> Read More... ), who raises single-handedly his two sons, Jigar ( Sohail Khan Sohail Khan is an Indian Film Actor. He is also a >> Read More... ) and Aman ( Arbaaz Khan Born in a family that has strong ties in the film >> Read More... ), as he is a widower. Dayal and his sons work day and night on their farm for a living. He sends away Aman, his elder son, for further studies, while Jigar stays behind with his father. A local goon, Sohan, comes to buy the entire farmland in the village and the issue gets worse when the trio Aman, Dayal and Jigar advise the locals of the village against falling for Sohan’s ploy. Just to add the glamour quotient, Nauheed Cyrusi is paired opposite Sohail and Dia Mirza Dia Mirza’s original name is Dia Handrich. Dia Mir >> Read More... is casted opposite Arbaaz. The movie takes an energy dip when Aman and Sohan become friends.

Analysis: Kisaan touches briefly on the aggravating suicide of farmers in Indian villages, without delving deep into it. It barely tries to gingerly scratch the surface. It is sad that despite having the potential to be serious, educating and entertaining, it fails to make an impact. The main issue is that this movie like all its predecessors ends up being a usual masala flick.

Star Performances: Jackie Shroff manages to give an excellent performance as a farmer and as the father of the duo. Sohail Khan’s sincerity deserves praise as a loving son. On the other hand, Arbaaz Khan’s wig casts ingenuity all around him.

What’s there? The music stands out as the best part of the film. It takes you back to the eighties and itwent perfectly well with the theme.

What’s not there? Prior to the release, there was a hint of comparison of this film to Manoj Kumar’s ‘Upkar’. Once you watch Kisaan, you will never get the déjà vu of that master piece, and all the comparisons fall flat.

Verdict: Kissan is an earnest and heartfelt attempt, but it’s dim-witted to an extent.
