Star Performances

Swara Bhaskar leaves a strong impression as the frustrated yet determined mother. The warmth that she diffuses is commendable. She has done her meaty role with great conviction. Riya Shukla, who is a newbie, surprises us with her acting prowess. She does full justice to her character that has negative shades. Pankaj Tripathi gives the comic stint to the film and this, he does with great gusto.

Analysis

In Nil Battey Sannatta, a part of society is highlighted wherein life is monotonous and where you have to work really hard to make your dreams come true. And the director of the movie, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari lets you be enchanted with the naïve world of Swara.

What’s there?

The premise of the movie is utterly sweet.
The movie doesn’t indulge in being too preachy.
When commercial potboilers are the order of the day, it is indeed heartening to see a movie that is something down-to-earth.
The bonding shared between the mother and daughter is endearing that the audience will be able to empathize with it.
The way in which the title of the movie is interlinked with Mathematics is interesting. Nil implies zero. Battey denotes division. Sannatta, as we all know, is silence.
The movie doesn’t traverse the path of being melodramatic.

What’s not there?

Certain moments in the movie could have been handled with subtlety.
