Shagird is an action thriller with a crime platform as the base. It was released in the year 2011 directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia Tigmanshu Dhulia is a super talented and multi-fac >> Read More... . The main concept of the film is corruption. Shagird is a must watch film in the society.

Plot:  Hanumant Singh ( Nana Patekar Nana Patekar is a popular Indian actor who was bor >> Read More... ) is the weird cop in the police department. He is a man of action who delivers most of the time but he has unusual ways to accomplish his mission. More importantly, he doesn't think twice before fraternise with corrupt politicians ( Zakir Hussain Zakir Hussain is a veteran and prominent film and >> Read More... ) and gangsters ( Anurag Kashyap Born on 10th September 1972, Anurag Kashyap has es >> Read More... ) and taking bribes for the services rendered. Trouble begins when a new and seemingly honest recruit ( Mohit Ahlawat Mohit Ahlawat is an Indian star known for his perf >> Read More... ) joins his team. The problems faced within the team forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

The entire track of the journalists being held captive and the suspense behind the captivity drama, when revealed, look contrived and too long so that the audience gets the feeling that a simpler approach could have led to the same conclusion. Another minus point of the drama is that the viewer does not know with whom his sympathy should lie as each time a new twist or turn is revealed, it emerges that the person with whom he was sympathising is not worth the sympathy.

Star Performance:

Nana Patekar has rocked the screen with his usual performance as a cop.  If Bunty Bhaiyya (Anurag Kashyap) is supposed to be a dreaded gangster, his performance does not make us frightened, instead, he ends up as a funny caricature of a don. The story doesn’t move forward till the kidnap of Varsha Mathur ( Rimi Sen Born as Shubhomitra Sen on 21st September, 1981 in >> Read More... ) who does a bad version of a journalist. The twist at the interval point is smart and makes you sit up and take notice of the otherwise leisurely paced screenplay.

What’s There ?

  1. Punch dialogues are extraordinary.
  2. Many twists and turns in the movie.

What’s Not There?

  1. Many twists and turns create chaos to the audience at one point of time.

Verdict:

Power corrupts. Absolute power is a mirage. For the topicality of the movie, you can watch  it once.
