Shootout at Lokhandwala, based on real events from the 1991 Lokhandwala Complex shootout, is a movie full of superstars. Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Arbaaz Khan, Sunil Shetty and various other big stars of Bollywood are in this film. Gunfire between the Mumbai Police officers and gangster happened in 1991, the film is based on those events.
The film roams around the investigation and interviews with police officers after the shootout. Regarding the killings in the shootout, all members of Mumbai police involved are questioned. Then, each of them, one by one, tells the story as it happened at the Lokhandwala complex. All the police officers were members of the Mumbai police encounter squad. Private Prosecutor, Amitabh Bachchan, confronts and asks questions to three officers- Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty and Arbaaz Khan. The story starts with five gangsters who were present in flat 32-B at the Lokhandwala Complex. They were counting money. The encounter squad got this information and surrounded the compound with over 400 armed police members. The gunfire started, which lasted for about 6 hours. It was a battle zone in the vicinity. The gangsters present there were the most wanted criminals of Mumbai, who have tortured and killed many innocent civilians with extortion.
The movie is directed and written by Apoorva Lakhia, and he did justice to the real life incident. The film was a hypnotic and shocking look at a real life disaster. The direction of the film is phenomenal. Action scenes are of very high quality. Blood scenes and violence did bring out the reality of these shootouts and encounters. The movie was given an A rating due to blood-spilling scenes. The film was loved very much by critics and the public. It was a blockbuster.
Shootout at Lokhandwala is full of superstars. Amitabh Bachchan with his all-time angry man acting and his dialogue delivery was at it’s best. Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, and Arbaaz Khan, all three as police officers, did justice to their roles. Sanjay Dutt especially fitted the role of ACP. Vivek Oberoi and Tushar Kapoor as gangsters were also very much appraised by critics for their strong acting. Rohit Roy and Shabbir Ahluwalia were phenomenal gangsters by Vivek Oberoi’s side. Actresses were not focused much on the film. Diya Mirza, Neha Dhupia, Aarti Chhabria and Amrita Singh were some female star heroines in the movie, and their acting was okay. Abhishek Bachchan was in a special appearance role, and his performance was average. All around, the performance from all the stars was commendable.
