Plot

The film revolves around the lives of a son (Rahul) and his mother (Sussane), who live in a gloomy house after his father's death. The film begins with a team of ghost hunters resolving a paranormal mystery in an abandoned house in Bangalore at 3 a.m. Then we are introduced to Rahul, the leading cast member of the film. Rahul loves watching horror films, and his mother is fed-up with him. Rahul falls in love with Harini. Harini lives with her mother. Rahul convinces Harini's mother about their marriage. She initially rejects their marriage but later agrees to it. After marriage, Harini decides to move into Rahul’s house. She carries a trunk (the thick, woody part of a tree) along with her other belongings. They both live happy lives.

But one day, Rahul experiences some strange happenings around him. At first, he feels that all this is because of his binge-watching of horror movies, but soon things turn worse.

Rahul’s mother, Sussan also begins to experience odd and unusual things. Harini didn’t experience anything. Except for her, both Rahul and his mother are frightened.

Rahul confesses everything to his Psychiatrist friend, who initially considers it a joke but later starts believing it. Sussan and Rahul think that there is something behind the trunk that Harini brought with her. Rahul decides to meet the TRAPS Ghost Hunters. What is the mystery behind this trunk? What is the connection between the Trunk and Harini? Is there something else, other than this trunk, behind these paranormal activities? Will Rahul succeed in fighting this inhuman presence? Watch the film to know this.

Star Performance

Nihal Rajput executed his role excellently. He played his character with all the required feelings and emotions. Vaishali Deepak, Aruna Balraj, and Sundara Shree did an applaudable performance. They did everything necessary. Director Rishika’s Sharma strength in this film is that she never deviates from the plot.

Analysis

The film Trunk is based on an actual incident in North Karnataka. It sets the mood in the film’s first half and keeps you involved. Some horror scenes are shot well. The part in which the Trunk scares Rahul’s mother is superb. However, in the end, the ghost fails to scare people, which make the second half less engaging. All in all, Trunk is an outstanding effort.

What’s There?

  • Horror scenes are stunning.
  • The cinematography is neat.
  • Perfect Camera-work. The low-angle shots make the film effective.
  • Thrilling music and background.
  • Impressive performance by Nihal Rajput.

What’s Not There?

  • Some scenes lack consistency and seem to be jumbled together.
  • Weak editing
  • Elements of fear are lacking in some parts.

Verdict

The film "Trunk" is unique and different from other horror films where paranormal happenings kill people. It is full of suspense and twists. The film proves that the Kannada industry can still make terrific horror films. Overall, Trunk is a must-watch film. Watch it and solve the mystery of the trunk.
