Plot: Annayum Rasoolam is a romantic film about the life of a young Latin Christian girl Anna and a Muslim taxi driver Rasool. The film is in a sort of narration by Ashley, who works in the merchant navy. He narrates how Rasool and Anna met each other and how Rasool was able to convince Anna to accept his love for her. He met Anna when she had got on his taxi and left her bag there. Rasool gets her number and starts contacting her. After a few days when he expresses his love for her, she declines him.

The next day Rasool falls ill and when Anna sees him missing she feels uncomfortable as she cannot stop thinking about him. The two then express their love and in spite of their differences and their insecurities; they come together. One day Anna tells Rasool to go to a convent where a nun tries to persuade him to change his religion, but he declines. The nun is Anna’s sister who becomes one when she experiences a failure in love and therefore Ashley, who loved her secretly, does not reveal his love to her.

The narration then continues to Anna and Rasool’s relationship showing the love they have for each other, but the story takes a drastic turn when Anna commits suicide on account of certain things that obstructed her relationship with Rasool. The film moves on to next episode where Ashley has expressed him to Anna’s sister, and she leaves her convent life behind for him. Meanwhile, Rasool after having lost his love moves to Mumbai as now Vypin has nothing left for him.

Analysis: The film has received appreciation for its simplicity. It does not depict an impractical love story but something which is genuine and appealing. The film revolves around the ones living in the lower classes of society. It is a proof of his excellence at work for the way he has presented the film to viewers. The cinematography by Madhu Neelakatan is impressive. He ensures that not a detail is left out, and it is stunning how beautifully he has carved the film.

The music by K is very appealing, and it seems nothing less than magical. It adds to the ambiance of the movie and makes it even more striking. One of the most applauds able aspects is that it does not take the help of dialogues to express extremes of emotions. The film is appreciated a lot for the level of perfection it has achieved in matters of direction, cinematography, and even music. The story is old, but appreciable. Though the film is pretty long, it does not bore you if you are genuinely interested in it. It is one kind of film the audience expects today which is very close to life, uncomplicated and genuine.

What’s there? The story is similar, but the presentation is almost perfect. The acting, direction, cinematography, and music are completely flawless.

What’s not there? The film in itself is every reason why you should watch it. There are no flaws.

Verdict: It is a must watch film. It is simple, genuine, very close to life, and appealing. The movie gives you every reason not to miss it.
