“ Bhayanakam” is scripted and directed by “ Jayaraj.” The film is an adaptation of the novel Kayar, written by Thakkazhi Sivasankaran Pillai. MK Arjunan composed the music and “Nikhil S Praveen” is the cinematographer. Jinu Sobha and Afsal SM edited he film. Asha Sarath and Renji Panicker played the lead roles in Bhayanakam. The film received three awards, before screening in theatres. The film received the National Awards for Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay. Best Music Director Award was given to Arjunan in the Kerala State Awards.
A Postman, who comes to Kuttanad resides in Gowrikunjamma’s house. Gowri’s sons are in the army, fighting for the nation. Initially, the postman, who is a physically challenged ex-army man, brings money orders from the people, who joined the army. During the war, he brings the telegram that carries the death news. The people, who were happy to see him when he brought money, start seeing as a bad omen, as he brings the death Telegrams. But, Gowri is a woman of positivity. She has some wavelength with the Postman. But, the postman always had some fear in his eyes. What next? Watch it in theatres!
Renji Panicker lived as the postman. He had done an excellent job. He shows all his emotions through his eyes. Asha Sarath is not even a point lesser than Renji. She did her job perfect, as usual. Vavachan, Kumarakom Vasudevan and Sabitha Jayaraj had also delivered their best.
Jayaraj has taken a beautiful script and also had chosen the best stars, who fit in his characters. The cinematography is excellent and it is just a tribute to the entire state. The background music blends with the script and impresses the audiences. Among the Navarasa series of his films, Jayaraj has come up with the sixth film and he has three more to complete.
What’s Not There?
Bhayanakam is an excellent film that describes the feeling of the people, who sent their blood relations to the war. It also deeply explains the fear of the ex-army man. Without any doubt, you could watch the film that not only satisfies you with the performances but will make you think about the society, war etc.
