Well, at the outset, any Malayalee would know about the famous ‘salt mango tree’ joke from the flick Doore Oru Koodu Koottaam. For those who don’t know, Mohanlal says that word for Upma. Since then the word had been widely related to people who don’t know proper English. In this flick that has the same title, Biju Menon The tall, dark and handsome Biju Menon started his >> Read More... is faced with a condition wherein he has only scant knowledge of English and struggles to meet the language-related expectations raised on him. However, the director has smartly handled the notion that a person who knows English is only intelligent.

Plot

Well, you would be wondering about the story of the film. It is as old as the origin of the world. Biju Menon is an easygoing person who owns a medical store. His wife, played by Lakshmi Chandramouli, is a lady who imbibed education in a convent. So for obvious reasons she wants to join her 5-year-old child, Master Varkichan,  in a topnotch school in their area. This inclination of her has been nurtured by the inefficiency of English prowess in their house.  She is very determined in this regard but ironically Biju is quite nonchalant. As told earlier, he is not so fluent in English. There is a hindrance to Lakshmi’s ambition now. Yes, our dear Master Varkichan fails to show good performance at the parents’ interviews. Here then, the couple go in for a coaching for parents, headed by the charming Suhasini. Well, watch the film to find out whether Lakshmi’s ambitions are fructified.

Star Performances

Biju Menon worked as a supporting actor in most of the Malayalam films, but it’s Vellimoonga that showed his prowess as a lead hero. And now again, Biju Menon appears in a film as the lead hero. Also, the way he shows his vexation surely deserves credit. Lakshmi, on her part (she has equal space as Biju), has done a convincing job as the desperate mother (though sometimes you have a feeling that she is overacting). Master Varichan, with all his naivety, has done a neat job. Kanaran Harish, who played the role of the medical shop assistant, has done a great job, with his Kozhikode slang. Saiju Kuruppur, Sughada, Sudheer Karamana Sudheer Karamana is a Malayalam films’ actor. Kara >> Read More... , Paris Lakshmi and Sarayu have done a fine job.
