The movie's cast includes – Ma Ka Pa Anand, Arul Doss, Priya Ashmitha, Azhagu, Yogi Babu, Ramachandran Durairaj, Tejashree Jadhav, Motta Rajendran, Ramki and Mahanadhi Shankar. Plot

The movie's plot centers on Bawa, a poor youngster who lives in a slum. He carries a water can business and also sings at death ceremonies. On one such ceremony, Bawa gets into a rift with a local gangster Mookuthi, and is running from him. While running, he finds a mobile phone which belongs to a lady named Bharti. Bawa repeatedly tries to return the phone to Bharti but fails due to various reasons and situations. What are these conditions? Why this phone is so important? Why the goons are chasing Bawa? The story provides answers to these questions.

Star Performances

Anand did a fine job while portraying Bawa, an unkempt slum, in this movie.  His honed his fighting and dancing scenes along with emotional quotient enhanced his performance. There is nothing much to talk about the performance of the rest of the cast. The story didn't justify the very meaning of their existence in the movie and they all were asked to do stuff mindlessly. However, they all tried to do whatever they were directed to.

Analysis

The movie centers around Bawa, a youngster from the slums who finds himself involved in some gangster business. The director has tried to blend various elements into the movie's script; there is romance, fights, emotions, the friendship factor, and a couple of twists and turns. However, the screenplay lacks uniformity and consistency. The early part introduces us to Bawa and his three friends. They spend most of their time in idle pursuits, boozing binges and singing at funerals, cheerfully enjoying their youthful times. Bawa has the patronage of Radha (a thug) because of his frequent altercations with both rowdies and the police. Bawa finds his romantic interest when he finds a missing cellphone of Bharti, but the interaction between these two remains formal until the end. Even after the movie's end their relationship is in vain and doesn't feel believable. The love that is revealed towards the end seems almost sudden and forced, sans conviction or any smooth lead into it.  Bawa's attempts to return the phone didn't succeed and many other parties were also interested in that cellphone. Steadily rising in stature as a solo hero, Anand as Bawa, the unkempt, uncouth slum-dweller who with his friends loved to sing at funerals, fits the bill. Rams as rowdy Mookuthi, Shankar as the comic cop, and Muthumar as Munnusamy, the new cop and Bawa's childhood friend provide necessary support to Bawa's character and help to move the movie's story forward. Rajendran's comic didn't make sense. The scenes involving his fat school-going son repeatedly beating, kicking, and slapping his parents are not intolerable. Other than this there is hardly any contribution of these characters to the main storyline of the film. The music of this movie is just fine. There is nothing to impress in the cinematography of the film. It is just passable. The movie has major pacing issues too.

What's There?

  • Anand's performance shines throughout the movie.

What's Not There?

  • The movie is based on a timepass mindless storyline.
  • Vague conceptualization of the storyline makes it a lost case.
  • Some characters in the film felt motiveless.
  • There are pacing issues in the film that irritates the audience.

Verdict

This movie tries to fit in various themes and issues, such as human sacrifices, trans-genders, deceit, and back-stabbing without much heed given, which makes it feel to be a mindless and vague story. Unevenly paced narrative, that shifts from one emotion to another, before one can savor a moment. At 147 minutes, this movie feels too long to handle. If you are looking for a mindless pass time movie, you can try it.
