Indira is a directorial venture by Suhasini Manirathnam, the wife of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam. That was the one, and only directorial venture by Suhasini and influence by Mani Rathnam could be seen throughout the movie. On seeing the A Class quality of the movie, one would be eager to know whether Suhasini had plans of directing another movie; such is the good quality of the movie.

Plot

The plot revolves around two villages and one among these two villages is Maranur.  There is no good relationship between these two villages.  For prosperity in the form of money, both the villages fight with each other and try to pin down the other.  The caste system has been highlighted in the movie, and how the present generation of younger people tries hard to wipe out the evil of discrimination based on caste is beautifully shown.

Star Performances

Anu Haasan plays the protagonist of Indira. The movie happens to be her debut in cine field. Her face proved to be photogenic in this movie, and her performance was like the performance of a seasoned actress. Arvind Swamy is very handsome to look on the screen, and he has served justice to the role of Thiyagu in the movie. Also, the supporting actors in the movie as Nasser, Radha Ravi, PL Narayana, and Monica have done their roles to near perfection.
