Plot

The title itself is an implication to womanhood. And when subjects on womanhood are made in Kollywood, the expectations are bound to rise. This film revolves around the happenings in the lives of some women. But the interesting point is that the narration is done from the perception of men, who are related to the women.

S J Surya essays the role of a director who is not able to shine in the tinsel world. Hence, he finds relief in alcohol. Bobby Simha The transformation of Bobby Jayasimha of remote K >> Read More... is another character who is hell-bent on making a widow, Pooja Devariya Pooja Devariya was born on 29 July 1991 in Mumbai, >> Read More... , fall in love with him. The three men try to come out the pit that they dig for themselves, and the confusion that they create in this process forms the rest of the story.

Star Performances

S J Suryah proves that a good director can also be a good actor. Karthik Subbaraj has tapped his skills to a great extent, and the actor has essayed the role of an alcoholic with great ease. Vijay Sethupathi, who is one of the rising stars of Kollywood, has given an earnest performance.  He has a well-etched role to which he does full justice. Bobby Simha also pulls off his role with a good comfort level.

Anjali has got a substantial role, and she has given a neat performance.Kamalini Mukherjee, who has been missing from Kollywood, has made a good comeback. Pooja Devariya does what is required of her. To be precise, the women in the movie, try their best to show that the concept actually belongs to them.  Vadivukarasi, Radharavi, and Karunakaran, though doesn’t have enough scope to perform, do a commendable job.

Analysis

Iraivi is all about empowerment of women and the way men give importance to women. With such a powerful subject one expects a lot from the movie. And in this regard, the director has been earnest in his attempt that sometimes he goes overboard.

What’s there?

  • Sivakumar Vijayan’s cinematography is one of the assets of the movie.
  • The dialogues hold promise.
  • Santhosh Narayan’s music is quite good.
  • The audience can relate to the women in the movie in some instances.

What’s not there?

  • When we feel that some actors could have had more screenspace, the director disappoints us.
  • The script is written in such a way that it drags sometimes.

Verdict

Iraivi is an earnest endeavor by Karthik Subbaraj and can be watch also for the good performances of the lead stars.
