Plot

Porpandhal, a small village is well known for its robust police station, with a near clean record for its staff. However, troubles rise for the honest policemen when their senior officers issue a transfer order to a riot prone idea. They devise various tactics to cancel the transfer. But will they succeed?

Star Performances

The reason wny this film is somehow watchable is due to the earnest efforts of the ensemble cast.

Arulnithi Tamilrasu, Singampuli and Bagavathi Perumal deliver some of the best performances as the honest, yet grumbling cops who just don’t want to leave their comfort zone.

Analysis

Cop dramas are nothing new to Indian cinema, with Tamil cinema claiming a fair share in the same. As such, with an innovative plot, ‘Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum’ had a winner in its hands. With a dedicated starcast, the only thing that lay ahead for the makers was box office success.

Yet, things didn’t turn out as desired. So, what went wrong? An idea that is brilliant in brain, or on paper, need not be great in execution as well. In this context, writer cum director NJ Srikrishna messed up big time. He had a brilliant script in his hands. Yet, he bit dust when it came to execution.

Despite the film being a dramedy, the humor is missing by miles. None of the jokes land well. Even the acting efforts of the ensemble cast, and the presence of a seasoned comedian like Yogi Babu isn’t enough, if the screenplay lacks substance. Only a couple of months ago, a commercial potboiler ‘Temper’, with an identical template, had released well. Yet, despite the predictability, the jokes landed well, and the film was surprisingly a good experience overall.

The same cannot be said about ‘Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum’ though. Despite the brilliance of the script on paper, the execution by the director is far from it. If not for the performance of the actors, the film was just a whisker away from disaster.

Verdict

‘Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum’ is a film that could’ve been a path breaking satire if made right. The script was great on paper, but the execution is a different story altogether. The acting performances by the ensemble cast somehow saved the day.
