Horror films have a miserable reputation in India, and Shashikala is just another lame film which adds to the miserable list.
Plot
The plot revolves around Nithin and Misha whose brother and sister are married to each other. They are shown as having a son and are expecting their second child. One day while traveling their car gets attacked by a mysterious gang. The husband dies on the spot while the wife manages to escape along with her son and then stays in a haunted house in a dense forest. She feels the presence of a supernatural being in the house and tries to escape but is unable to do so So she tries committing suicide but the power strikes her down on the ground. Soon after that, she gives birth to a baby girl and then dies. The two children are left all alone in that house and are brought up by a ghost that has been there for a long time. Fast forward to five years, Nithin comes to know about the people involved in his brother's death and at the same time, the children are rescued from the house and handed over to Nithin. Though the children are reluctant at first they become attached to Nithin and Misha after a while. The ghost forms a connection with the children during those years and comes in search of the children to be with them. The children resist going back to the ghost and refuse to be friendly with it and this makes the ghost very furious. It tries to separate them from Nithin and Misha and the rest of the story reveals what happens next.
Analysis
The plot of the story is quite childish, After-all can you explain how on earth a mother tries committing suicide instead of finding a way to escape and how the ghost takes cares of the newborn and why the children did not even try to escape once. There are many loopholes in the story and you keep scratching your head to find logic in it.
Star-Performances
Nithin and Misha put up good performances trying to shield the children from the ghost. The kids do a good job too.
What’s there?
• Good acting
• Good direction.
What’s not there?
• The story is illogical and needed to be more thought upon.
• The ghost does not give a vibe of spookiness at all.
• The creepy music does not do much either.
Verdict
If you are a fan of horror movies you should give this movie one chance.
