Read review for this film "Mapla Singam Movie Review"

This is a film title meant to be a ‘bridegroom -As strong as Lion’ but that is not the case. It is a film that directly deals with the issue of caste rivalry between dominant castes of a Tamil Nadu village. And the director perhaps feels that caste references polarize Tamil film fans. Keeping caste issues as the backdrop of the plot in the film, the director tried to provide a mass entertainer no doubt. With apt costumes, village set-ups, bullock carts, chariot festivals, the director Rajasekhar created a justified attempt in narrating the story to a full extent. But then there has to be a message for viewers that caste rivalry can only bring disunity among village folks. Hence, one can give up such hatred amongst two groups if only a love story can be framed. To win the heart of two rivals, the director has predictably matched two lovers’ interests to nullify the caste conflicts among them. What a superb idea one must confess? The director might have felt that the caste difference can be sorted out with a convenient solution in this film if two lovers get united from two different castes.

The story takes off in this manner. There is a chariot festival and two rivalry castes have to win the game in order to get recognition in the village. Each caste not only represents a particular political party but also two different castes. There is a rule in the village that one caste group of men or women cannot marry one outside their own caste. Although there is a huge respect for the women or prevailing family system, yet a boundary of two caste people getting closer to each other is avoided always. To know more about the rivalry or hatred of the two castes one must watch the movie fully! The film gets a real twist when Radha Ravi's daughter Madhumila falls in love with an opposite caste guy in village and Anjali (a lawyer) falls in love with Vimal. It was Vimal who had been really leading the villagers in their rights to abstain from opposite-caste marriage, but then how he fell in love with Anjali truly provides a basic interest to the mindset of viewers. The film is also strongly supported by assembling cast of actors like Soori, Kaali Venkat Kali Venkat hails from a rural village named Kovil >> Read More... and Adam Greig At the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, Adam Grei >> Read More... who just handles the comedy zone in the movie.

The film may not be an extraordinary one. But an excellent photography by V.S. Tharun Balaji who has really captured the village atmosphere in the movie needs a mention. Even the editing is strong in many scenes but some songs could have been avoided. Anyways, the film is a wholesome family entertainer!
