Renuka Menon

Other names of Renuka Menon: Renu

Renuka Menon is an Indian-born actress, who is usually seen in South Indian films, including Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. She belongs to the Nair family of Trichur, Kerala. She showed interest in an acting career since she was a child. Belonging to a liberal family, her father, an advocate and her mother, a homemaker, did not stop her from pursuing her dreams. In fact, her mother promoted her daughter by sending her pictures to various magazines time to time. Finally, all her hard work paid off, as she featured on the cover of a magazine called “Mahilarathnam.” This feature helped her get attention from various directors.

Renuka’s debut movie was supposed to be “Mayomohitachandran,” but it did not release. She finally made her acting debut with “Nammal” in 2002, which was a blockbuster hit. A Malayalam film, directed by Kamal, it broke all records at the box office. This paved a channel for her into the Telegu film Industry where she starred first in “Valliddaru Okkate.”

In 2005, Renuka started getting many offers from Tamil as well as Kannada industry. Films like “February 14” opposite Bharath and “News” opposite Upendra, were not very successful. Later that year she also starred alongside Jayam Ravi, in a Tamil movie called “Daas” hoping to regain her blockbuster charm; but it too was not successful. In 2006, she was paired with Arya in “Kalabha Kandhalan,” a Tamil film directed by the debutant Igore. The movie was a romantic thriller. In 2003, she had paired up with Prithviraj for “Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum,” which was rated to be average. In 2006, she acted opposite Prithviraj again in the Malayalam film “Vargam,” which was a critically acclaimed one. She also had a chance to work in the movie “Pathaaka,” a Malayalam film, with actors like Suresh Gopi, Navya Nair, Lalu Alex and Saikumar. Pathaaka remains the most significant, at least for now, in the actor’s career.

Later, Renuka moved to U.S. for further studies and subsequently got married. A Software engineer by profession, she married Suraj, in 2006, and since then she is settled in the U.S. where she also has her dance academy in California. She has a daughter from her marriage.

Language has never stood before Renuka’s growth. This is probably why she is quick to adapt herself to any environment flexibly. Her adaptive nature has what helped her grow in South Indian film Industry.
