A Most Violent Year is a crime-drama film written and directed by J.C. Chandor and has Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain in its lead roles. The trailer has a dark and brooding theme to it. There’s a perpetual feeling of tension in every scene. It is set in the 1980’s and follows the life of Abel Morales, owner of a heating oil company. His company becomes the target of vigorous investigations, with people determined to expose alleged price fixing and tax evasions. Mysterious assailants keep on attacking Abel’s employees.
What does Abel do to save his employees and company from these unknown assailants? Perhaps the more pertinent question would be; does he do anything to save his company and employees? These are the questions only the movie can answer. A Most Violent Year received positive reviews from the critics. The director was commended for cleverly navigating the complex plot. The actors were lauded for their clinical and convincing performance, but the film didn’t garner a lot of money at the box office, perhaps due to its refined content.
