M. S. Umesh aka Mysore Srikantayya Umesh, is a Kannada actor. His career has spanned almost five decades. In his starting days, he acted in stage shows and, later on, bagged the project Makkala Rajya. After his debut, he has a feature in more than 350 films. He was born on 24 April 1945 in Mysore. His parents were A. L. Srikantayya and Nanjamma.
He did his schooling from Mysore. He was drawn to stage plays and theaters in Mysore only. At a very young age of 4, he joined K. Hirannaiah's famous theater troupe. Soon he joined a much more famous company of Gubbi Veeranna and played several roles as a child artist. During one such play, he was noticed by Puttanna Kanagal and recommended Umesh for B. R. Panthulu's next film. The movie also featured Sivaji Ganesan in a cameo role.
At 15, he wasn't able to fit in child roles as well as adult roles. Therefore, he shifted to stage plays again. He was struggling to find good roles. But, the again, Puttanna Kanagal came to his rescue and cast him in his film Katha Sanagama in 1977. This movie won multiple laurels and fetched Umesh Best Supporting Actor in Karnataka State Film Award. After that, he featured in a lot of films through 1980's to 2000's.
He featured in films like Nagara Hole (1978), Guru Shishyaru (1981), Apoorva Sangama (1984), Anupama (1981), Kaamana Billu (1983), Shruthi Seridaaga (1987),Golmaal Radhakrishna (1990), Neenu Nakkare Haalu Sakkare (1993), Shravana Banthu , Malaya Marutha (1986), Venkata in Sankata (2007).
