It was premiered on Disney+Hotstar on 12^th February 2021. The story includes a group of college buddies Jenny, Ashwin, Aravind, Kanan, Selma, Saleem, Volga, Kalai, and Shekhar who run a reality show ‘Dark Tales’ on Nam TV, whose format parodies the Tamil talk show ‘Solvathellam Unmai’. Dark Tales invites people on stage to share their paranormal experiences and encourages them to open up their darkest fears. A clumsy re-enactment of the whole ordeal of the survivors is done before the victims are invited on the stage.

Aravind is the host of the show and has no genuine empathy whatsoever for his guests, who talk about their worst experiences and he approaches the show with joy and humour, contradicting the very theme of the show itself. Jennifer aka Jenny is portrayed as a selfish and TRP hungry lady who has a lack of morality to promote the scientific temperament among the audience. She succeeds to drive up the rating of the show by encouraging the several superstitious beliefs of the people. When the show’s writer Kanan confronts her about it and warns her of the consequences, she simply brushes off his warnings without any guilt and merely states that the public is getting what they want.

The story starts with the entire team attending a success party, when Aravind receives a call from an unknown person and asks Jenny to switch on the television in a hurried voice. Upon doing so, it is discovered that a big-screen actress, previously rejected by them, was going to debut in the world of soap opera at the same time slot of their show. Initially, Jennifer mocks the actress while watching the promo, but a few days later it is revealed that the soap opera's higher views are threatening Dark Tales. Enraged and threatened, Jennifer's lack of morality stoops lower and she gets her cast members to re-enact a scene where a woman gets raped by an invisible force. Incensed, the social media starts a protest, later joined by Mahila Morcha, and the channel and advertisers decide to pull the plug on the show.

Jenny, being selfish as usual, believes in her ingenuity and the stupidity of the people. She gets another idea and decides to capture and live broadcast a ghost on her channel. Kajal and her team find a house where the family is going through some kind of demonic situation. They check the location and finalize their plan. The house constitutes a woman named Shenbagham, who is a tailor and her two children, her daughter Oviya who goes to school, and her mentally ill son who cannot remember the faces of people. Her husband works as a driver abroad. Shenbagham tells the team of her son's condition when they approach her and states that he would cry if he sees any new face.

The entire team prepares the location for the shoot adding equipment to the property, while Kalai and Shekhar get into a relationship. The team decides to live telecast it for the people to believe everything, however, they also appoint two cast members just in case the ghost doesn’t show up. When things don’t go as planned, they decide to bring the cast out to fake a ghost, the real entity shows up and possesses the actor. Everyone gets locked up in the room and how they escape forms the rest of the series.
