Swathi’s mother-in-law, Alivelu, treats Swathi like dust. Raghu has an elder brother who is married to Bhadravathi. Bhadravati has a school-going son, Chinna, and is pregnant with her second baby. Swathi is also pregnant at the same time.

Alivelu treats Bhadravati like a princess and Swathi like a maid. Even during her pregnancy Swathi is given all the house work including washing the clothes, dishing, cleaning the house, and cooking. Everyone in the house acts like they like Swathi in front of Raghu, but behind him, they don’t leave a chance to make her cry. Bhadravati’s father visits the house and reprimands Alivelu for breaking her promise. Before Bhadravati’s marriage, her father tells Alivelu that he will give both his daughters to the same house, and Alivelu agrees to it. Before they could do that, Raghu came home with a bride. Everyone starts despising her for that. They give a magician money to pose as a fake baba and tell Swathi that the birth of her child will bring doom to the house. This creates a stigma in the entire village.

When Raghu goes out of the station, Alivelu coerces Swathi into going to a small temple to lift the fake curse. There they humiliate her in front of the villagers. Later that night, Alivelu, Bhadravati, and the maid try to kill Swathi. When that fails, they coerce her into attempting suicide. When she is about to hang herself to the fan, Raghu comes home. He sees her from the window and stops her from killing herself. When that failed, Bhadravati hires a goon, a guy Swathi has known from her childhood, to ruin the relationship between Swathi and Raghu. He tells Raghu that he had an affair with Swathi and that the child she is carrying is his. Raghu believes him and stays away from Swathi. Bhadravati and Swathi go into labour on the same day. Everyone takes Bhadravati to the hospital in a car and leave Swathi in the house.

She walks to the hospital even with the pains. Chinna sees her in the parking lot of the hospital and calls the doctor. They both give birth to girls. When Bhadravati takes her daughter to a priest, he tells her that according to her daughter’s astrology, she brings doom to everyone around her. He then tells her that Swathi’s daughter is the opposite and that she brings good into the lives of other people. Bhadravati and the maid think of instances in which her daughter caused a problem, and Swathi’s daughter has been a magic solution. They decide that letting Swathi’s daughter in the house might be good, but from the moment she enters the house, they treat her like a slave. They frame Swathi for murder and send her away to prison. Her daughter had to live her life like a slave since then.
