Anjan Das was a Bengali director who was born on 17th November 1949 in Narayanganj in Bangladesh. Anjan Das made his debut as a director by making documentary films. He directed The Art of Anant Malakar and Tripura. After gaining experience from these documentary films, he went on to direct a feature film. In 1976, he directed Sainik that grabbed international audiences and was premiered at many international film festivals. It was premiered in Mannheim, Tehran, Berlin, Mongolia, Italy, and Yugoslavia. Saanjhbatir Rupkathara is one of his notable films that made its premiere at the international film festivals. The 2001 movie premiered at Montreal, Rome, London, Rotterdam, Madrid, Edmonton, and Singapore film festivals. In 2004, he made the film Iti Srikanta, which won the National Award for Best Audiography. Once again, he won the National Award, and this time, it is for the Best Feature Film on Welfare. Faltu grabbed this award and made him proud. His film Jara Brishtitey Bhije Chilo won the Special Director’s Award in Kazakhstan and awards from Spain for the Best Actress and Jury Special Award for the Director. It also premiered at the Indian Panorama of International Film Festival of India in 2007.

Almost all his films grabbed the attention of the international audience and were premiered at the International Film Festivals. Swarger Nichey Manush, Achin Pakhi, Banshiwala, and Bedeni are a few of his directorial ventures. In 2014, he directed Anjana Bataas, based on the novel penned by Jay Goswami. Before its release, it was premiered at the International Film Festival of India in 2013. In 2014, it received the Bronze Palm Award at Mexico International Film Festival. It was his last film, and he died on 2nd June 2014 in Kolkata due to cancer. Anjan Das was married and had a son Charandeep Das, who is also in the film industry, directing and playing in films.
