Kim Bodnia is a writer, director, and actor from Denmark. He was born on April 12, 1965, in Copenhagen. The actor grew up in Espergaerde. His mother’s name is Arne Bodnia. The actor comes from a Jewish family with Polish and Russian roots. In 2014, he declared himself half-Russian, half-Polish, and entirely Jewish. Kim Bodnia has had two marriages. Actress Lotte Andersen was his first wife, with whom he had a son who is also an actor. He is currently married to Rikke Louise Andersson and has two sons and a daughter with her. Kim Bodnia stated that as a kid, he was not a particularly excellent student. He called himself a clown who did not want to study.

His main passion was athletics, notably the meters and long jump, in which he was a multiple-time New Zealand youth champion. He wanted to be a goalkeeper in football, but a foot ailment stopped him from doing so. Bodnia joined the drama group at Espergaerde Ungdomsskole as a student, primarily playing comedy roles. His mother advised him to apply to the Danish National School of Theatre and Contemporary Dance when he was 16. His first application had been denied, but he was admitted a year later, in 1987, on his second effort.

After graduating in 1991, one of his first parts was as Patrick Bateman in a stage adaptation of American Psycho as a violent, brutal character. Bulldozer (1993), directed by Maria Sdahl, was Bodnia's first leading role in a film. Despite his success, Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher (1996) and then Winding Refn's Bleeder (1998) took him two years to complete.

He has since appeared in three films directed by Lasse Spang Olsen: In China, They Eat Dogs (1999) and its followup Old Men in New Cars (2002), and also Den Gode Strmer (2004), which he co-wrote with the filmmaker.Bodnia has also starred in Norwegian films such as Himmelfall (2002), Monstertorsdag (2004), and Tomme Tnner (2010). After playing the drug dealer Frank in Nicolas Winding Refn's directorial debut Pusher in 1996, he gained popularity. In 2006, he made his debut in the historical miniseries Snapphanar. Did he feature in several episodes of the crime series The Killing (2007) (Danish: Forbrydelsen) and two episodes of the comedy-drama, Hvorfanden er Herning? In the first two seasons of the Nordic noir crime drama The Bridge, Bodnia portrayed Danish detective Martin Rohde. Hans Rosenfeldt devised and wrote it as part of a collaboration and funding agreement between Sweden's Sveriges Television and Denmark's DR.Despite signing on for the third season, Bodnia walked out, apparently unsatisfied with his character's growth.

In an interview, he also expressed reservations about working in Malmö due to the city's antisemitism, which aided his decision to leave the series. In 2009, he received the Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 62nd Bodil Awards.In 2014, he received the Monte-Carlo Television Festival's Outstanding Actor.For his part in Killing Eve, he won a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2019. In 2001, Bodnia co-wrote and filmed Escape - Flights from Entropy, a short film. (Escape - Flight from loneliness). He conducted readings of The Tailor's Tale, a drama written by his cousin Alexander Bodin Saphir and based on his Jewish grandfather's experience of life in Copenhagen during the Nazi occupation, at the Scandinavia House.
