Denny Lawrence

Denny Lawrence (born 1951 in Sydney) is an Australian actor, writer, producer and director of television, theatre and film. He studied at NIDA and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. Among his most notable credits are the feature film Goodbye Paradise (1983) and the mini-series Bodyline (1984). Denny has also served as a high school teacher at the starting days of his career. His first job in the industry was as an actor in the 1971 TV series Matlock Police, where he portrayed the character of Reg Vinten, the hilarious cameo.

The next year in 1972, he starred in the lead role in Number 96 as Kit Vansard. This show was very controversial due to it’s storyline, it was centered around residents of Sydney, their lives intertwined with taboo subjects such as drug usage, rape, adultery, homosexuality and many other controversial topics. In 1993, he made a cameo in his first ever movie The Nostradamus Kid, a drama romance movie.

The same time, he started directing shows. In 1982, he directed a few episodes on The Young Doctors, then in Sons and Daughters. In 1985, he made his directorial debut on the silver screen with Emoh Ruo, a hilarious comedy about an ideal couple who finally move out of their caravan and buy a an exceptional place of their own, only to find out they were cheated by the broker. His next film, Afraid to Dance won him a lot of credentials when it won awards for its exceptional storyline.
