On June 3, 1975, Jason Anthony MacDonald was born. He is a former MMA fighter from Canada. He was a professional from 1999 until 2013 and is most known for his two stints in the UFC, but he also fought for King of the Cage and the Maximum Fighting Championship. Known for his grappling abilities, he won 19 of his 25 career fights by submission. MacDonald began his professional career in local Canadian companies like the MFC. He amassed a 16-7 professional record that includes victories over UFC veterans Joe Doerksen, Gideon Ray, and Bill Mahood. On October 10, 2006, MacDonald made his UFC debut against the favored The Ultimate Fighter 3 finalist Ed Herman at Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3: The Final Chapter. In an upset, MacDonald won the fight in the first round with a triangle choke.

Following that performance, MacDonald defeated The Ultimate Fighter 1 veteran Chris Leben in the second round via modified guillotine choke. Both victors were awarded Submission of the Night. MacDonald bounced back from his loss at UFC 83, defeating Joe Doerksen via TKO (elbows) in the second round and receiving a $75,000 bonus for Knockout of the Night.A minor spat occurred after MacDonald delivered two hammerfists after the bout appeared to be ended. In an interview the day after the fight, MacDonald explained that the referee had told him to keep fighting and had even apologized to him for his mistake. Only a month later, MacDonald fought at UFC 88 as a replacement for Jason Day. He won by rear-naked choke vs. Jason Lambert at 1:20 of round two, earning his third Submission of the Night prize.

MacDonald then faced Wilson Gouveia in The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs Team Mir Finale. After being felled with a glancing left punch by Gouveia and stomped on for the stoppage, MacDonald lost the bout via submission due to elbows. MacDonald was knocked out in the first round of UFC 97 by Nate Quarry's elbows from a mounted position. Despite Dana White's prior claims that MacDonald's spot on the UFC roster was secure despite his recent lack of success, the UFC fired MacDonald some weeks later. Matchmaker Joe Silva stated that if MacDonald wins a few smaller promotions, the door will be left open for him to return. MacDonald owns and operates the Pure Fitness & MMA facility in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. He also owns and runs his combat promotion, Pure Fighting Championship. He handles many professional MMA fighters from Canada, notably Ryan Machan. Derek Clark, Evan Sanguin, George Belanger, etc. MacDonald and his wife Kelly have four children: two sons, Tristin and Keel, and two daughters, Jett and True. Jason is a CrossFit Trainer that works for CrossFit HQ, where he co-teaches the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certification course.
