Ken Stott is a well-known film, stage, and TV actor. He is known for his role in The Hobbit Trilogy as Balin. Kenneth Campbell “Ken” Stott was born on October 19, 1954, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a Scottish by birth. His father, David Stott was an educational administrator. His mother, Antonia Sansica was a Sicilian Lecturer. Stott went to the George Heriot’s School and completed his schooling there. For graduation, he got into Mount view Academy of Theatre Arts in London. After studying in London, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company which is a theatre company.

He could not meet his financial needs while working as an actor at the company and hence he started working as a double glazing salesman. This side of his life is portrayed by him in Takin’ Over the Asylum. Ken has a son named David from his marriage with Elizabeth Stott. They got divorced, and in 2016, Stott tied the knot with Nina Gehl. Initially, Stott worked in a play called The Folk Singer. It was a play directed by Dominic Behan. It was about Northern Ireland problems.

His first TV series was Secret Army aired in 1977. He played the role of Baroja in the TV series. In 1982, he was casted as Curan in the TV film, King Lear. In the year 1983, he did another TV movie called The Beggar’s Opera in which he played a role of Jemmy Twitcher. He appeared in an episode of Taggart (1985) as Dr.MacNaughten. He was also casted as Uncle John for two episodes of 1986 TV series, The Singing Detective. He was seen in the first episode of 1988’s London’s Burning TV series as Cyril.

In the same year, he appeared in For Queen and Country as a civil servant. The Missing and Fortitude are also the TV series in which one can see his incredible acting. Along with TV series, he has done a bunch of movies. He has mainly done supporting roles, but his role as Balin in The Hobbit Trilogy was one of his best works.

Ken Stott has received different awards and nominations for his outstanding acting. At the Royal Television Society Awards, he had received a nomination for his role in The Vice for Best Actor in 2002. He has also received nominations for Supporting Role in The Recruiting Officer in 1992 and Best Actor Award nominations for Art (1997) and A View from the Bridge (2010). At BAFTA Awards Scotland, he won the Best Actor in TV for Hancock and Joan in 2009 and received a nomination for Best Actor in TV for The Missing in 2015. At the BAFTA Awards, he was nominated for The Vice in the category of Best Actor in 2001 and for Hancock and Joan in 2009. He was also nominated in the Category of Best Supporting Role for The Missing in 2015.
