In the poetic province, Jeet Thayil has the noteworthy contribution. He's an Indian poet, librettist, musician, and novelist born on 13th October 1959 in Kerala, India. During his early age, he was into writing poems and put much emphasis on the form. His father was also a writer, editor, and biographer named T.J.S. George. He was married to Shakti Bhatt (deceased) who was also a writer.

 He is well known for his four collections- Gemini (Viking Penguin, 1992), Apocalypso (Ark, 1997), English (2004, Penguin India, New York, 2004), Rattapallax Press and These Errors Are Correct (Tranquebar, 2008). His first novel, Narcopolis published by Faber in 2011, was about how Bombay (Now called Mumbai) has a secret history of it. It talks how heroin introduced in Bombay and is way cheaper than Opium. He edited the novel of Contemporary Indian Poets published by Bloodaxe, UK edition in the year 2008, and also Divided Time: India and the End of Diaspora published by Routledge in 2006, Sixty Indian Poets published by Penguin, India in the year 2008.

Also Anthology of Contemporary Indian Poetry in associated with the United States in the year 2015. In 2012 he became the author of the libretto for the UK-based opera group called Babur, held in London. The music composed for the Opera was by British composer named Edward Rushton. Also, its premiere showed in Switzerland and then in various parts of United Kingdom (also in the theaters in Oxford and London) and lastly in India. The opera based is on beliefs, faith, multiculturalism and multi-linguistic culture in the Great Britain. A group of religious people encountered with a ghost of Babur and the spirit challenges their plans and beliefs for suicide strike.

In the early 1980s, he was a guitarist for a rock band called Atomic Forest. He worked in Bombay, Bangalore and New York as a Journalist. In 2006, he confessed that he was an alcoholic. Mr. Thayil received many awards for the work he contributed to the world of literature; they are: Sahitya Akademi Award for These Errors Are Correct,Narcopolis for the Hindu Literary Prize in 2013 and Man Booker Prize in 2012. In 2013 he won the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature and became the first Indian author to win this award. He also received $50,000 for his book Narcopolis.
