Fareed Ahmed

Fareed Ahmed, a Pakistani filmmaker, was the son of acclaimed director ‘W. Z. Ahmed,’ a prolific filmmaker of the pre-partition era. W. Z. Ahmed also worked as an actor in the Canadian television series ‘9B,’ which released in 1988. Ahmed portrayed Dr. Khan in the episodes of the show, namely Accident and Nomination. The series starred actors like ‘Robert Wisden,’ ‘John Bayliss,’ ‘Melanie Miller,’ and ‘Elizabeth Beeler.’ The successful show was nominated at Gemini Awards for Best Drama Series, Best Direction in a Dramatic Series, etc. The filmmaker-cum-actor also starred in the 1987 Canadian television series ‘Street Legal,’ that aired on CBC TV. The series has the credit of being the longest-running one-hour drama on Canadian television. Ahmed portrayed Judge Benet in the episodes Soul Custody, Without Prejudice, and The Bracelet, from 1989 to 1990.

The director has to his credit over 2500 performances of fifty plays conducted across India and internationally. He is best known for plays like Kambhakt Ishq, Kanjoos, Chandu Ki Chachi, and Kallu Nai MBBS, among others. The acclaimed filmmaker gave up his fight against cancer in 1993 in Lahore.
