Brothers Rajan and Sajan Mishra perform Indian classical music in the khyal genre. They received the Padma Bhushan in 2007, the National Tansen Samman for 2011–2012 on December 14; the Gandharva National Award for 1994–1995, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award jointly in 1998. On April 25; 2021, Rajan Mishra passed away at St. Stephen's Hospital in New Delhi from a heart attack brought on by COVID-19 problems. Sajan was born in 1956, and Rajan was born in 1951. Rajan remained active until 2021. Mishra was raised and held there. They began playing when they were still in their teens and received their first musical training from the brother of their grandfather, their father, and their uncle named Bade Ram Das Ji Mishra, Hanuman Prasad Mishra, and sarangi virtuoso Gopal Prasad Mishra respectively. In 1977, they relocated to Ramesh Nagar in Delhi, where they still reside.

The Mishra brothers have entertained audiences across India and the world for many years. Rajan and Sajan Mishra are descendants of the Banaras Gharana's khyal singing tradition, which dates back 300 years. When they gave their performance in front of Satguru Jagjit Singh, they were both accountants working in a modest business. Realizing their talent, the Satguru offered to double their living salary in exchange for more time spent honing their vocals. They performed in several nations worldwide after their 1978 concert in Sri Lanka, including Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the USSR, Singapore, Qatar, Bangladesh, and Muscat. Jugalbandi, a unique tradition of a duet performance, is best exemplified by Rajan and Sajan Misra. They have been the most popular vocal duo in Indian music for the past 20 years, displaying a high degree of friendship and aesthetic compatibility in their creative improvisations.

The brothers Rajan and Sajan Misra are from Benares (Varanasi), a sacred city that is home to many talented musicians, percussionists, and dancers. They come from a family of accomplished musicians, and their father and uncle gave them significant training. They can bring out the spiritual side of every raag in their performances, which are consistently soulful in tone. In addition to their command of the musical syntax, their combined voices' richness and depth produce a stunning tonal tapestry. In a duo performance, they can shape and alter the listener's mood through the development of the raag. The Misra brothers describe their music as a manifestation of their thanks and devotion to Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning and music. It is essential to understand this before listening to the performance of Raag Saraswati that is included in this CD. It is a beautiful twilight tune that is rarely heard these days.
